WHITE AND BLACK GRANITE KITCHEN

This island is situated in is a kitchen that is 27ft by 27ft. One of the few square kitchens that we have run across. The family consists of the mother, father and two teen age children. While the children were growing up they always seemed to have a hassle as to where to do their homework. The kitchen was small and space taken up by the kids was not available to the parents for preparation of the family meals. So, for years, the space was always "under siege" by "the one who got there first. Also, the mom wanted to supervise the homework and it seemed that nothing was working out.

We worked with the client to use incorporate an adjacent space (formerly a storage area and laundry room) into a good working kitchen. This gave us the opportunity to design a large island where the person preparing the meal could work and the kids could do homework and be supervised all at the same time. This island design gave the family the space they needed and had hoped to acquire by remodeling there existing space.

The kitchen has two long walls where a refrigerator, main sink, dishwasher, microwave and double ovens are located along with a great deal of storage. The choices of white cabinetry, black and red granite countertops and a black and white floor answered the aesthetic issues for this client. They had stated during interviews that a simple, clean look would help them feel serene and content in their new surroundings.
